A Champion for Justice

Matilda "Tilli" Villalobos is a seasoned attorney with nearly a decade of experience as a prosecutor in both state and federal courts, now dedicated to defending the rights of individuals and seeking justice for victims. Her career began as a prosecutor in Texas state courts before she joined the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico in 2018. This background gives her a unique perspective on how cases are built and how to dismantle them in defense of her clients.

Tilli’s practice focuses on criminal defense, representing victims of sexual abuse, appeals, and civil rights. She has litigated nearly every type of federal case, from immigration offenses and drug trafficking to sexual abuse, gun crimes, civil rights violations, and child exploitation. Tilli is especially skilled at defending clients facing criminal charges, advocating with compassion and determination for survivors of sexual abuse, and pursuing justice through appeals of wrongful or unjust outcomes.

Tilli has tried dozens of jury trials to verdict between both federal and state court and has successfully briefed and argued cases before the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals. Her accomplishments have been widely recognized: she was named Attorney of the Year in 2024 by the United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico and received the prestigious Director’s Award from FBI Director Christopher Wray. These honors reflect not only her courtroom skill but also her dedication to justice—a dedication she now brings to every client she represents.

Tilli earned her law degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, where she represented clients in the Criminal Justice Clinic and interned at the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Sexual Assault Unit and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Oklahoma. She is also a graduate of Southern Utah University, where she graduated summa cum laude and was recognized as the Outstanding Student in Criminal Justice and Political Science for the 2012 graduating class.

Tilli is licensed to practice in New Mexico, Texas, United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, United States District Court for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals.
